Optimizing Mitochondrial Function for Health and Performance
Mitochondria, often referred to as the “powerhouse” of the cell, play a vital role in maintaining health and improving performance. Well-functioning mitochondria are essential for various bodily processes including energy production, detoxification, regulating inflammation, and preventing excessive oxidative stress.
They are also important for improving endurance, strength, recovery, reducing fatigue, and performance. Efficient energy recycling, and buffering of metabolic by-products are a key factor in sports performance, and the more robust the mitochondria, the more potential for impacting not just output in training, but also regulating how we process input through nutrition.
Factors like stress, aging, poor nutrition, and poor physical programming can impair the function of mitochondria. In this talk, Luke will go over some of the factors that lead to decreases in health and performance, and some viable solutions using nutrition and progressive supplementation, with special emphasis on how stress can be managed to help drive positive mitochondrial adaptation rather than negative maladaptation.
